Time for a break
NHS BLOG DOCTOR is taking a break.
After only a few days away, I return to a deluge of emails which, even after the spam filters have done their work, I cannot manage.
At work, it is busy. The summer means less viral illness, but people still get ill and the summer also means two or three partners on holiday from now until mid-September. We have excellent locums, but they do not pick up the mountains of collateral stress. I read in the papers that GPs don’t do much work these days. That seems to be another thing we have got wrong in my practice.
And at home we have GCSEs and AS levels, and UCAS and personal statements and still the crabs keep coming.
Wakefield, 36 Gray’s Lane, MTAS, dumbing down, Dr Munro and Dr Pou are worthy subjects and the words still flow. But, as regards the personal side of medicine, the human side, the part I try to put in the diaries, the articles on schizophrenia and mental health, the part of NHS BLOG DOCTOR that I value the most, the muse, such as it was, has deserted. A thousand words or so a day, which I have managed usually with pleasure for nineteen months has suddenly become impossibly demanding.
Time to recharge the batteries. So, NHS BLOG DOCTOR is going into recess.
Have a good summer.
All being well, Dr Crippen will be back in the autumn, batteries recharged and ready for battle. There will still be much to discuss.

John enjoy your break and I await your return.
There is a storm on the blogosphere
It tears my mind apart
I am bleeding and lying here
Like a deflated fart
Then it turned dark
And for a moment I see
That Crippen has left
And on a journey he does embark
Is he in search of answers?
Is he in search of truth?
Is he in search of understanding
of advanced practitioners truth?
My guiding star in oratory
He has flown the coup for respite
Spread your wings Crippen
as I know you’ll come back soon with extra bite
Please return soon

Oh no...
The diaries were always my favourite bit of this blog, the part that brought me back every day. I do hope you will come back in the autumn suitably refreshed.
Bah. Bloggers. So unreliable...
Take it easy mate.
You deserve some time off!
Take good care of yourself (and your family) and we'll be looking forward to seeing you in the autumn.
And all the best for the exam results!
Dr Crippen, have you come across 'Everyman' by Philip Roth ?
It's all about letting go - if you get a chance take a little peek, unless you are working on your own book of course ???
Enjoy the break and have a good summer. Looking forward to reading more when you get back :-)
Keep well :-)
Oh no! It's the first blog I read every day.
Oh well - I suppose you have the right to some kind of private life.
Best wishes
Clare Wilson
John,
Hope you have a v g refreshing break.
Best wishes

Relax & enjoy! The Mrs & I will miss your posts but everyone needs a break, even from the most enjoyable of pastimes.
We look forward to your return, & best of luck to all the examinees!
Have a refreshing break.
We'll try and take the slack up on www.drrant.net.
There's no shortage of targets looming on hte horizion. Don't get ill on Wednesday 1.8.07. No one (doctors, GPs, hospital staffing, hospital switchboards) has any idea just how many gaps there will be on rotas that day.
We're also getting the book of our blog together this month.
have a good break! I look forward to reading the "crippen diaries" when you come back!
When a hobby becomes a chore it is time for a rest. Sometimes there is a sense of responsibility when you blog and that can be too much too shoulder with work. I empathise and hope you have a good summer.
Best wishes
Emily
I echo all the above and look forward to your return.

Crip babe
You just went on a holiday. I know it can be really stressful. I get tons of email etc as well. Its been like this for years as well.
Its the price of fame - the more famous you are, the more the demands are. The key is to do what keeps you happy and not do what the audience demand off you.
Take a break babe. We will all miss you so dont leave permanently. By the way, the GMC check your site regularly if that makes you feel any better. We know because we tracked them coming from your website to ours.

Haw naw! no Dr Crippen for three months! That's worse than no Dr Who for three months!
Enjoy your break. Don't feel guilty about us (sniffle). Seriously, enjoy your break. We'll be here when you get back.
As a regular Ethel is distraught that her beloved Dr Crippen is retiring for the summer - I assume that he is going aboard the Montrose and escaping. I will be joining the police aboard the Laurentic and hopefully will be with the good doctor soon ....

Enjoy your break. Next time round, curtail it a bit - the amount you've been doing must have been knackering.
Hello Sir,
My name is Craig J. Phillips and I am a traumatic brain injury survivor as well as a master’s level rehabilitation counselor. Through out my lifetime, I have taught myself how to overcome many insurmountable odds. These strategies have helped me to prosper and succeed. On February 6, 2007, I decided to start a blog at http://secondchancetolive.wordpress.com/ Second Chance to Live presents topics that motivate encourage and empower the reader. As a tbi survivor, I can speak from my experience, strength and hope. As a professional, I provide information to encourage, motivate and empower both disabled and non-disabled individuals. Our circumstances are not meant to keep us down, but to build us up. Second Chance to Live empowers the readers to live life on life's terms.
Please read my post; http://secondchancetolive.wordpress.com/2007/02/18/my-journey-thus-far/ as that will help you understand more about my background. Professionally speaking, I have nursing training on the LPN level, I have an undergraduate degree in Theology, with a minor in Physical Education / Recreation, and a masters degree in Rehabilitation Counseling. I have practical experience with in nursing, emergency medicine, physical education, private and public rehabilitation, chemical dependency counseling, day treatment and partial hospitalization for mentally ill adults, and I have worked with in both the cemetery and funeral industries. In addition I have been pursuing my own personal empowerment for the last 30 years. Please consider sharing my site with anyone who needs to be encouraged, motivated or empowered.
Per my traumatic brain injury, at the age of 10, I was in a motor vehicle accident. Upon impact -- the Cadillac hitting our VW Beetle -- I was thrown forward from where I sat, behind my father who was driving. On my way forward, I snapped my left femur on my Dad's bucket seat and then hit the windshield. When my head hit the windshield, I sustained an open skull fracture. The injury to my brain resulted in my remaining in a coma for 3 weeks. Upon waking from what I thought was a bad dream, I found my left leg elevated and in traction. Slowly, it became apparent that I was not merely in a bad dream. Although I am unable to remember much from that time in my life, one memory stands out. The right side of my forehead -- where the fracture occurred -- was depressed inward like a shallow bowl. I later learned that my right frontal lobe had been damaged, that I had sustained a severe brain contusion, and that my brain stem had been impacted.
In 1967 neurological rehabilitation was not available. As a result, I was virtually on my own. I had to re-teach myself how to walk, talk, read, write and speak in complete sentences. Although my injuries were life threatening and I was not expected to succeed beyond high school, I went on to obtain both my undergraduate and graduate degrees. I have learned that daunting pessimism and negativity is pointless. My hope is that through visiting my site, those individuals who may have lost hope will see a new light. This light will in turn guide them to a renewed hope, an array of possibilities, and a new zest for living.
Second Chance to Live, http://secondchancetolive.wordpress.com/ will enable the reader to live life on life’s terms.
Please share my site with veterans, soldiers and their families.
Thank you for your time and kindness,
Respectfully yours,
Craig J. Phillips MRC, BA
Cheers Craig!
Dr Crippen is no doubt deeply touched by your kind and insightful sentiments with regards to his looming, and well deserved sabbatical.
Frank
Have a jolly time, remember life ain't ALL that bad!
Enjoy the break!
The diaries are the best bit so if your break brings them back to life, break away!
Second the other posters - have a good re-charge.
The Rants are entertaining but it is the diaries that really make the blog live. And with Michael O'Donnell no longer around we need the Crippen Diaries more than ever.
Hope to find you back in harness in the Autumn.
You'll be missed! Look forward to the autumn return.
Enjoy yourself and have a good rest.
If I read of a some new riverside gastro pub doing crab with frites I'll know where to look!
Will miss you - have a good break and come back soon!
Have a good blogbreak.
I'll be looking out for a crab update.
Have a good break John - looking forward to your return in the autumn!
You're having a summer where you are? Please share with the rest of the UK!
Enjoy the break.
"...the muse, such as it was, has deserted."
Was it the Daily Mail statins headline?
Enjoy your break.
I'm torn. I'm going to miss you, but I think you deserve a break after all your hard work. I just hope you don't leave it too long before coming back.
Enjoy your break.
Have a good break -- and keep well away from floods!
You deserve the rest. I always wondered how you actually found the time to see the patients that you write about so entertainingly and empathetically whilst still having a family life. Now I know; something has to go and I understand that the family and the patients have to come first. (my youngest is waiting for A2 results then off to Uni - first choice if the exams went as well as she seems to think, but I will have to be there to pick up the pieces if she didn't get the required grades so I understand what you are goinghrough at home). All the best; I will visit your site again in a month or so.
Thanks so much for all you have written, you will be much missed, BendyGirl
I echo all the comments above: I'll miss the diaries in particular. do come back please! The other thing is that unlike Rant the web filter at work doesn't stop NHS Blog doctor. Rant is apparently "tasteless" and so inappropriate for me to read.
good luck
no one
I will miss you terribly-

What a pity! I hope you enjoy your break and that the muse returns soon.

You need to go through long distances sometimes, making you buy a lot of Teleport scrolls with your Rose zuly just to go to the cities. The quests are OK and have a good storyline so far, and you will gain a good amount of experience by grinding and rose zulie too. Something I liked in this game was the nice design of the clothes can have from rose online zuly. There also armor also can gain from rose online zulie sets that can be wore by any class. Another nice thing that I would like to talk about, is that you can have nice Arua ROSE zuly in ROSE Online.
Runes of Magic is a Massively Multiplayer Online Role playing Game without monthly costs all kinds of Rom Gold and free to download. The premise is that you have played this game and understand the necessary Runes of Magic Gold in the Runes of Magic game. Perhaps the first monster I saw taken down in the demo can gain those varieties of Runes of Magic money. Characters choose one class; the important one is that we have to buy Rom Gold first. You can switch freely between the two classes, but you can only use primary abilities from your primary class, along with cheap Runes of Magic Gold, secondary abilities from your secondary class.
