The best laugh of the week

You may have thought it was only in the House of Commons that nepotism flourishes. Not so. The Guardian gives similar sinecures to its journalists' children.
Max, 19, hits the road
Meet Max Gogarty - 19, from north London, spends his money on food, booze and skinny jeans, writes for Skins in his spare time. He's off to India and Thailand to have a good time, and you can join him in his weekly blog (The Guardian)
It was all down to Daddy. Gogarty senior is a travel journalist working for the Guardian. As so often, I am grateful to my ageing Greek friend for drawing my attention to Maximus Minibus, whose writing is dire. Dire beyond belief. So why read it? For the comments. Hundreds of them. And every one a joy.

Read them quickly before the Guardian bottles it and takes them off. The most enjoyable ten minutes since you sat up for Portillo. Pleasure like this is so rarely available for free.

I hate to say it- but i secretly laughed too. Each to their own I guess. But if he keeps relying on daddy his whole life for his breaks he'll get nowhere.

I gather that when the Guardian's editor employs his own children he has them use their mother's maiden name as their surname. Pity he didn't pass this tip to young Max's daddy. I also note that the same daddy named his daughter after a ferry port. Heartless bastard.

Admittedly anything I wrote when I was 19 would have been just as dire and self-fixated, but then nobody was offering to put my adolescent scribblings in the Guardian. Possibly something to do with my Dad being a builder rather than a Guardian writer.

All hilarious stuff, and I greatly enjoyed reading the comments.

Though when it comes to newspapers being caught out, the Guardian's act of nepotism isn't nearly as offensive as this.

Heavens, zarathrustra, just followed up the Daily Mail reference.

That is appalling.

Priceless. I don't know why Max is 'shitting himself', looking at the places he's named I can assure him that they are jam packed full of 19 year old trustafarians on a gap year so he won't have to encounter or speak to any actual Indians or Thais and daddy can always wire him some more money if he's running a bit low and needs another pair of skinny jeans. This must reassure him no end.

The reaction to MarkChamberlain's comments really made me laugh. I know Mark, and I can promise you, absolutely and totally, that his support for Max is nothing but irony!
